Food insecurity affects more than just physical health — it can also impact emotional wellbeing and a family’s ability to thrive. This month, we’re highlighting local community resources in one easy-to-access, digestible format, so you have all the information you need to both find support and give back to the Austin community.
These resources are a great place to start if you’re looking for meaningful ways to give back this holiday season:
Services: Free groceries, meals, SNAP/WIC benefits assistance, mobile food pantry calendar.
Volunteer opportunities: Warehouse sorting, mobile pantry support, home‑delivery program.
Donate - every $1 = 6 meals for our neighbors.
Call 2-1-1 (option 1) for multilingual help with food, utilities, and other resources.
Visit 211texas.org for a searchable database of food pantries and emergency services.
Open every Saturday 9 AM - 1 PM
Triple WIC - 3x monthly WIC benefits for fresh fruits and vegetables. WIC yellow market dollars do not expire.
Double Up Food Bucks Texas - double the value of SNAP benefits for fresh fruits and vegetables. Yellow Double Up Food Bucks and SNAP red market dollars do not expire.
Services: Free groceries for families in need. Current hours include Thur, Fri, and Sat from 9:00-10:30 AM (through Dec.)
Volunteers are welcome; donation drives and food/fund drives are part of the mission.
For residents of Travis County: provides free food pantry access, especially useful for those experiencing benefit gaps.
This mutual‑aid network runs multiple 24/7 outdoor community fridges around Austin.
These fridges are open to everyone - no forms, no sign-ups.
You can contribute by dropping off food items or signing up to help clean the fridge.
Food safety is important: if you donate prepared food, label it with ingredients and date, and avoid raw meats unless specified.
